Pool House
The Berry Pool House, featured in A Decade of Art and Architecture 1992-2002 (published by the Institute of Classical Architecture) creates a relaxing retreat by using the elements of rural architecture in a provocative way. Key design elements of the pool pavilion were derived from the existing house, which is exemplary of a New England shingle style house, a fond memory of a Jamaican hut, and a 'traditional' rural barn. A bluestone deck, which surrounds the pool, is also carried throughout the pool pavilion; creating the literal extension of the landscape that seamlessly flows through the structure. An outdoor shower provides a soothing experience beneath a star-filled sky. The colors of the interior and exterior were carefully selected by the owners to "induce warmth and cheer." What could have been a rather utilitarian structure supporting the pool, became a curio within the property's pastoral landscape harkening back to a romantic memory. |
