Bios
Marvin Clawson
AIA, NCARB, CID

Principal and Founder, earned his Bachelor of Architecture at Louisiana Tech University in 1985 and Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design at Columbia University, New York, NY in 1992. Prior to founding Clawson Architects, Mr. Clawson was the Director of Architectural Design at LRK Architects, Inc. and an Associate at Cooper, Robertson & Partners. He also worked with the Office of Thierry W. Despont, Ltd and Charles T. Young Architects. Currently, he is leading various projects including apartment renovations and alterations on the Upper East Side and SoHo, renovations and alterations to the John J. McMullen Seafarer Center for the Seaman's Church Institute in the Port of Newark, renovations, alterations, and additions to homes in Port Washington, New York, Montclair, Maplewood, and Millburn. He has taught at the Institute of Classical Architecture and Louisiana Tech University. Mr. Clawson was recently selected as one of eight architects to compete in the Traditional Building Design Challenge sponsored by New Old House Journal. He is a member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America, the Association for Preservation Technology, and the Congress for New Urbanism. His membership with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards enables him to expedite the licensing process in any state. Mr. Clawson has recently added Certified Interior Designer (CID) to his credentials.
Mary René Clawson

Principal and Founder, earned her Bachelor of Architecture at Louisiana Tech University in 1987. Prior to founding Clawson Architects, Ms. Clawson worked with the New York City architectural firm of Buttrick White & Burtis, where she gained varied experience working on Tower Records & Video retail stores, the renovation of Sherry-Netherland Hotel, renovation and restoration of Fordham University's University Chapel, and the Park East Day School. Currently, she is leading several projects in residential renovations and additions. Recent projects include renovations, alterations, and additions to homes in Port Washington, NY, as well as Chatham, Maplewood, and South Orange, NJ.
Suzana Francisco
Intern, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art History from New York University in 2000. Ms. Francisco is currently working toward a Master of Architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Prior to Clawson Architects, she worked at Christie's and Phillip, de Pury & Luxembourg, art auctioneers, in New York, where she dealt with the purchases and sales of a range of high end works of art. Ms. Francisco also held a prominent position in a family contracting business. She is excited to be able to bring both of her backgrounds together through her work with us. Currently, she is assisting with various residential renovations and additions.
David Rittinger, Jr.
Intern, graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2007. Mr. Rittinger has won several awards and scholarships for his designs, his most recent being the Architects League of Northern New Jersey Scholastic Achievement Award. Mr. Rittinger has passion for design excellence. He contributes to various projects currently being developed by Clawson Architects including the Kraham/Joseph Kitchen which was published in the October 2005 issue of New Jersey Monthly.
Jason Weisman
Intern, earned his degree in Architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2005. Mr. Weisman has won several awards and scholarships for his designs, his most recent accomplishments being the 2005 New Jersey Carpenters-Contractors Trust Scholarship, 2004 Honorable mention for the Hunter Douglas Design Competition and the Faculty Scholarship recipient. While President for an unprecedented three terms of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity, he maintained his position on the Dean's List for academic excellence. He contributes to various projects currently being developed by Clawson Architects including the renovation and restoration of the former Carl Fisher residence of the acclaimed Carl Fisher's Bay View Colony in Port Washington, Long Island.
Barton J. O'Donnell
Intern, achieving High Academic Honors, Mr. O'Donnell received his Architectural education at the Savannah College of the Art and Design where he earned both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Architecture. Mr. O'Donnell's academic tenure also includes studies in the South of France. His integrity and strong leadership skills were recognized by his peers as they elected him to Treasurer and Vice President of the American Institute of Architectural Students. His acute sense of professional service and management skills has been honed in the Restaurant and Catering Industry where he has held positions in Management and the Design of Commercial kitchens. Bart is currently working on the renovations and alterations to the John J. McMullen Seafarer Center for the Seaman's Church Institute in the Port of Newark.
Henry Chiu
IT Consultant, owner and founder of Connexion, Inc of Basking Ridge, NJ. He earned his BBA in MIS from Baruch College, CUNY, in 1994. Mr. Chiu started his company over 6 years ago and has over 10 years of experience in various computer-related matters. His services and experience include working with multi-platform servers and workstations, network design and implementation, and Access database programming with a focus in the MS platform. He is certified in MCSE, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and has completed course work in Cisco Router Configuration. Mr. Chiu has been responsible for setting up and maintaining our computer network and equipment.
Charles L. Steinkamp
PE
Consulting Engineer, and member of the Clawson Architects Board of Advisors. Mr. Steinkamp is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and heads our Florida office. His forty-five years of experience in construction management includes work on notable buildings such as The Watergate, The New Library of Congress, The United States Navy Nuclear Submarine Base at Kings Bay, Georgia, and most recently the Inn and SPA at Amelia Island Plantation. Mr. Steinkamp contributes to various projects in the office on an as needed basis.
