Many are fooled into thinking this was "just a period restoration" project when really it was a complete re-model/re-envisioned home. This home renovation, began with re-thinking the entry hall.. The original was an enclosed staircase that arrested the flow and energy of the home. There were numerous dead ends within the home that impeded circulation.

Clawson Architects re-envisioned the main entry foyer. By relocating the stairs to the side, the space is opened up. Real windows now flood the space with natural light on both the first and second floors. Views were created within the home and out into the landscape. Authentic period details like the custom balustrade enhance the experience of the stair hall on both levels and were continued throughout the home.

New custom mahogany double front doors with beveled glass detail and side lites enhance the entry foyer experience by giving views into the landscape and allowing natural light in.

The American Institute of Architects recognized this project with a Gold Medal for Design Excellence. This award-winning stair hall is part of another featured Clawson Architects project, the Re-envisioned Foursquare.
